To newcomer Ellie, Avalon High seems like a typical American high school, complete with jocks, nerds, cheerleaders, and even the obligatory senior class president, quarterback, and all-around good guy. But it doesn’t take Ellie long to suspect that something weird is going on beneath the glossy surface of this tranquil hall of learning. As she pieces together the meaning of this unfolding drama, she begins to recognize some haunting Arthurian echoes, causing her to worry that she has become just a pawn in mythic history. A powerful novel by the author of The Princess Diaries.
Going into this book I didn’t really know what to expect. I watched the Disney Channel version of this movie and was obsessed with it when I was younger so I thought it would be fun if I read the book. This book though was a pleasant surprise.
The characters were all pretty interesting. Ellie was nice and entertaining to read about. I will admit though her weird obsession with her pool weirded me out in the beginning but it began to make sense towards the end. I loved Will ! He was so sweet and was just the perfect gentleman. As the book went on you get to see what Will is really made of because he faces so many difficult task.
I liked how the author took this book but also intwined some stories from King Arthur. It was
The storyline was interesting as it can be considering I already watched the movie when I was younger. But there were some major twist that I did not expect to happen. There were LOTS of moments in the book that the movie did not mention.
Overall, I rate this book a 3.5 out of 5. The writing itself isn’t anything jaw-dropping but that didn’t make the book any less enjoyable. This book is short and sweet, so it made it a perfect Sunday read. I was in love with the movie as the kid and the fact that Greg Sulkin played Will Wagner made the movie all the better! I definitely recommend reading the book and watching the movie there both good. Even though I really liked this book, ‘Avalon High’ is the second book of the list. Make sure to subscribe to find out if ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ by Kevin Kwan or ‘The Princess Bride’ by William Goldman wins the rose!
