‘The Princess Bride’ by William Goldman

Description:

“What happens when the most beautiful girl in the world marries the handsomest prince of all time and he turns out to be…well…a lot less than the man of her dreams?

As a boy, William Goldman claims, he loved to hear his father read the S. Morgenstern classic, The Princess Bride. But as a grown-up he discovered that the boring parts were left out of good old Dad’s recitation, and only the “good parts” reached his ears.

Now Goldman does Dad one better. He’s reconstructed the “Good Parts Version” to delight wise kids and wide-eyed grownups everywhere.

What’s it about? Fencing. Fighting. True Love. Strong Hate. Harsh Revenge. A Few Giants. Lots of Bad Men. Lots of Good Men. Five or Six Beautiful Women. Beasties Monstrous and Gentle. Some Swell Escapes and Captures. Death, Lies, Truth, Miracles, and a Little Sex.

In short, it’s about everything.”

Rose-Worthy Features

Ever since I was little I was always loved The Princess Bride. Everything about this movie to my young childhood eyes seemed perfect; the funny characters, the epic adventure and best of all the beautiful romance. The movie was at the top of my ten favorite movies and still is to this day and I’m happy to say that this book did not disappoint.

I always loved the characters in The Princess Bride, they were so unique and different compared to each other. One thing for sure was that there was a lot more detail about all the characters which I found to be interesting. I feel like I got to see more of why Buttercup was so beautiful, in the movie it just seemed like she always was but you can see from the book that she had her own reasons to start caring about her appearance.

This book is the perfect action/ adventure book. There were moments where I gripped the book just wondering what would happen next. There were epic duels and fantasy like experiences that made the book so enjoyable.

The relationship between Westley and Buttercup made me smile so much. Usually I don’t like it when relationships start off so fast but in this case I didn’t care. I loved Westly and Buttercup together, always have always will.

Thorny Features

While reading there are some interruptions and there is interruption in the movie but I think I was just so sucked up into the book that I didn’t want anything to drag me away from it.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I rate this book a 4 out of 5. This book is amazing and I definitely recommend reading it. The book seems long but I read this book fast. It’s very much one of those books that you just sit down and finish it all in one reading. The characters are interesting and all have unique back stories. I would definitely recommend reading this book. It was a fun read and it has a little bit of everything for everyone.
