“Gemma Fisher seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now she’s falling harder for him every day. But Gemma doesn’t know that her ordinary life is about to change forever.
Penn, Lexi and Thea are strangers in town for the summer—and they’ve been watching her. Three sisters with mysterious powers, they invite Gemma to join their exclusive circle, and it changes her in ways she never imagined. Suddenly she’s stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.”
For starters I found the plot of this book to be really entertaining. I found the idea of sirens to be unique and fun to read about. I think the whole idea of these beautiful girls who come to town only a couple of times a month and are this big mystery to be intriguing.
I found Gemma to be interesting. While she wasn’t the most unique character she was fun to read about. She has this care free personality but also seems to be very ambitious when it comes to her passion of swimming.
I thought the relationship with Alex and Gemma was cute. It’s your stereotypical boy next door situation just add a tail into the mix. They were sweet together and I thought Alex was ADORABLE. He had me giggling anytime he said anything.
If you do decide to read this book one thing that I found interesting was the backstory of the sirens. When Pen was talking about how they became sirens I liked how the author tied in Greek mythology. To me it made the book feel more authentic and interesting to read because it was surprising (unless you know a lot about Greek mythology, then maybe you already know, lol).
I’ll be honest, I hated reading the chapters with Harper. In my opinion those chapters kind of ruined the book for me. I would be so engrossed about what was happening to Gemma in one chapter and then the next its talking about Harper and her feelings for Daniel. Don’t get me wrong I didn’t hate Harper’s characters, in fact, I feel like I could relate to her in some degree about being the older sibling but it was when the chapters were focused on her I ended up getting bored.
Overall, I rate this book a 4 out of 5. Yes, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to other people. I know there is a second book to this series, but I’m not 100% sure if I want to read it. Maybe if I really don’t know what to read next then I’ll read it, but I’m not sure. I’ve read ‘Switched’ by Amanda Hocking and I loved it! So definitely make sure to go check out those books (link below). I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, you’ve just been reviewed.
