“A darkly compelling mix of romance, fairy tale, and suspense from a new voice in teen fiction
The trees swallowed her brother whole, and Jenny was there to see it. Now seventeen, she revisits the woods where Tom was taken, resolving to say good-bye at last. Instead, she’s lured into the trees, where she finds strange and dangerous creatures who seem to consider her the threat. Among them is Jack, mercurial and magnetic, with secrets of his own. Determined to find her brother, with or without Jack’s help, Jenny struggles to navigate a faerie world where stunning beauty masks some of the most treacherous evils, and she’s faced with a choice between salvation or sacrifice–and not just her own.”
I love a good fae book! Something about reading about these mischievous little creatures, I find to be interesting. One thing that I’ve always found fascinating is the fae world. I think Ruth Frances Long captured the fae world beautifully. Capturing the beauty but also the treachery (haha see what I did there) that is the fae world.
The plot of this book was highly entertaining. With all the different challenges that Jenny faced, whether it was deceiving monsters, crazy people trying to feed her to monsters and worst of all Mab, the fae queen, but Jenny doesn’t give up easily. I think the book being in the third person set the tone of this book. I liked being able to see all the betrayal and meddling going on, behind Jenny’s back. It defined what the fae are like perfectly.
Uhhh the drama! The betrayal! This book has it all! Especially betrayal. With all the different sides, there is a ton of deception and lying. There is literally no one who Jenny can trust. Take any drama tv show, and add fae, there you have this book.
The relationship between Jenny and Jack was like the fantasy version of Romeo and Juliet. They want to be together but there are so many factors that are stopping them. One is that Jack is not human. Their moments together have so much chemistry and passion, I loved their relationship!
One thing that I can guarantee is that the ending of this book was perfect! It was something I didn’t expect or see coming but made me smile ear to ear. The ending was like a full course meal, and I was completely satisfied.
Overall, I rate this book a 4 out of 5. Honestly, this book is just gorgeous. Even if you decide to read this book just because of the cover, you won’t be disappointed. The magical fae world was beautifully written about, and I highly recommend reading this book. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, you’ve just been reviewed.
